On 27 February 1996, more than 120 police raided Shenzhou premises for allegedly selling protected endangered species.

It became a front page news all over the country. However, all allegations turned out to be baseless after investigations costing Dfl. 3.5 million. Shenzhou lost more than Dfl. 1 million (€500,00) due to the raid but became even more popular with patients. The police returned all 25 tons of Chinese herbal products as well as import and bookkeeping documents that have now become important traditional use evidence of Chinese herbal products in Europe.
